Mission
Architecture & Planning
In the spring of 1984, Department of Architecture & Planning emerged as a part of the then Government Engineering College (GEC) Raipur with an intake of 20. In 2005, GEC Raipur turned into National Institute of Technology, Raipur (NIT Raipur). The present intake of the Department is 40.
The Department stands as a centre of creativity within the campus of NIT Raipur. It is determined to give its best to the society, in the form of architects, who would be able to carve out spaces to create build forms as per the need and requirement of the Society.
The demand of professional Architects is increasing progressively in the society. The endeavour of the Department is to deliver these professionals for benefit of mankind that would not only solve the problems of built environments today but also would shape it for the future generations. This is proven true by the 800 plus alumni who are working across the globe for last 37 years.
The program involves theories, studios, and site studies which helps the students to explore a range of design investigations, expand knowledge and confront the challenges of the contemporary built environment. The subjects are carefully chosen to not only instigate the modern context but also learn and incorporate the vernacular and traditional visions.

The vision of Department of Architecture & Planning is: “Educating the coming generations in the art and science of making buildings, by producing architects who would be able to consciously design spaces and built forms that would not only solve the problems of built environments today but also would shape it for the future generations.”
Urban Informatics Laboratory (UIL):
Urban Informatics Lab (UIL) is well equipped with the computers and Geo Informatic System software. The laboratory consists of the data and information related to several Global and Indian Cities. The laboratory aims to impart the knowledge of complex urban systems and subsystems among the students. The laboratory is used to demonstrate, discuss, and upskill during the teaching-learning of various courses such as Remote Sensing and GIS, Town Planning, Advanced Physical Planning and Theories, etc.
Environmental Laboratory: With the help of instruments and equipment available in this laboratory, the students get a chance to practically use them, conduct experiments and come to conclusions regarding various climatic data. As compared to using standardised data, they can study the method of deriving them.
Model Making Workshop Students are encouraged to make scaled models of their projects, using various materials like wood, Plaster of Paris, acrylic sheets, etc., which help them in understanding the structural and aesthetic values of their designs.
Building Material Laboratory: The building material laboratory houses a vast collection of material samples and models that help the students to understand, identify and experience the properties of the materials, their applications and fixing details through practical, hands-on experience.
Computer Laboratory: The computer laboratory, equipped with broadband internet facility in the Department introduces the students to the modern methods of developing models and drawings, with the help of modern software such as AutoCad, 3D Max , Revitt etc.
REPROGRAPHY ROOM:
The department eliminates any barrier for students constant learning and gives printing facilities.
Survey Laboratory: The laboratory has all the equipment to give the practical exposure of field survey and levelling to the students. This helps the students to gain knowledge of fieldwork, layout of buildings and preparation of measured drawings.
Fine Art Laboratory:
The lab is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities like 3d Printer and Laser- Cutting Machine. This facility acts as a platform for experimenting hands-on by students to explore the role of art and aesthetics in Architecture. The facilities help them to create physical models of the projects undertaken during their course works. A wide variety of tools are available to the students to explore. Previous works done by students are also displayed for reference.

The students participate in Annual and Zonal NASA (National Association of Students of Architecture) conventions. They get exposure to the academic activities carried at various architecture schools across the country and compete with them.
The department has an association of students named ASAR (Association of Students of Architecture Raipur). The association organises various events such as Archifest, Architects Day, Teachers Day and Welcome function. These events provide a platform for the students to show and develop their extracurricular skills.
